    The Manchurian Presidency

Manchurian_candidate_still_photo The Manchurian Candidate is about a Communist plot to install a dupe, played by James Gregory (left in the photo at right), as President. He claims to be fiercely anti-communist, but he's really controlled by the communists through his wife, played by Angela Lansbury. (Sorry if I spoiled it. Watch it for Frank Sinatra next time -- one of his best roles.)

Ever since the movie returned to vogue politicians have been warning that their opponents are secretly working for the other side. The claim is made this cycle about Barack Obama. That is, Barack Hussein Obama.

Of course, this deliberately misses the plot. The James Gregory candidate is a perfect conservative, a neo-McCarthyite. In 2008 parlance, he's McCain.

But what if the Manchurian Candidate has already been elected? What if, in fact, he's been in office for over 7 years?

George_w_bush_official_portrati When seen objectively, George W. Bush sure looks like The Manchurian Candidate. Only he wasn't placed there by the Communists. He was placed there by the Arabian Wahhabi, the people behind Al Qaeda.

Everything this Administration has done, consistently, has been to the benefit of the Arabs, and the extremely religious Wahhabi (who are supported financially by the Saudi royal family) in particular.

Think of where we were in 2000. We were the Hyperpower. Nearly a third of the world's production flowed from the U.S. We had the strongest military in the world. We could do anything, even keep the price of oil down.

Now look. The Army is broken. It was stopped from winning in Tora Bora, Afghanistan, then broken by leaders who didn't give them the equipment they needed in Iraq. The economy is broken, probably owing to the costs of that war.  The dollar is broken. The price of oil is now well over $100/barrel.

Do you know what that last fact means? It means that, with Arabia still pumping 10 million barrels of oil each day, at a cost of nearly zero, that country alone is bringing in $1 billion every day from the rest of the world, mainly from you and me.

The credibility of this nation is shot. The corruption of our times is incredible, across the board. The government's only success is to immunize itself, and corporations, from any prosecution for their crimes. Signing statements, pre-emption doctrines, they all have the same aim in mind -- prevent tomorrow from ever catching the criminals of today.

Beyond that they can't get a thing right. Department of Homeland Security? Please.

What do these acts have in common? They all degrade the power of the United States of America, they all raise the power of Saudi Arabia and its allies. We have gone from the world's master to the world's beggar in just 8 years, all thanks to the actions of one man's Administration.

That's what the Manchurian Candidate is all about. To my way of thinking we've just been through a Manchurian Presidency.
